No doubt about it, these guys are studs. Cam Newton is the future of the NFL and Peyton Manning is at the end of a Hall of Fame career but they are both incredible talents. How will they match up in Super Bowl 50? Keep reading for the HollywoodLife.com tale of the tape.
It will be the first time two number one overall draft picks meet to battle it out for a championship. It will also be the first time they play against each other. Peyton Manning, 39, is the genius veteran quarterback for the Denver Broncos, versus the young gun for the Carolina Panthers, Cam Newton, 26. The Sheriff versus the Superman. Which quarterback has the edge in Super Bowl 50? HollywoodLife.com has broken down these two fierce competitors for you, check it out below.
1. Athletic Ability
These are big dudes. Both players clock in at 6’5″ but at 248 pounds, Cam is bigger than Peyton’s lean 230. Cam can scramble, pass, run like a fox and has been healthy all season. His performance this season has been one amazing play after the next. Cam is a lock for the MVP, especially if he wins the big game. Peyton’s season was wrought with injuries and he limped into the post-season after missing 6 regular season games.
When Peyton talks, his teammates listen. He is a respected veteran from a family of NFL quarterbacks that include his father Archie Manning and his Super Bowl Champion brother Eli Manning. Peyton is a master offensive coordinator on the field with wild hand gestures and audibles at the line of scrimmage. His favorite snap cadence, “Omaha, OMAHA,” will be yelled many times before every snap. Cam is a great leader and well respected on his team, but he is no Peyton.
The 18-year age gap is the largest ever for competing Super Bowl QB’s. Peyton is a Super Bowl Champion and MVP with 18 seasons in the NFL. In Super Bowl 50 he will be the first quarterback to play in the game with two different teams. This will be Peyton’s fourth Super Bowl. Cam won the Heisman Trophy in college but has only seen the Super Bowl on TV.
5. Their Teams
The Carolina Panthers were nearly perfect this season with a 15-1 record while the Broncos went 12-4. However defense wins championships and the Broncos pass rush has been lights out this year. Cam will be put to the test against the Broncos who give up less than 200 pass yards a game, best in the league. With a rushing QB in Cam, the run-happy Panthers offense averages about 9 points more per game than the Broncos who will put up about 22 points per game.
Both players are exciting to watch. Peyton works his offense like only a salty veteran can while Cam has the explosive play-making capabilities of the next generation of quarterbacks. Cam has the ability to will his team to victory with his speed and strength and Peyton has the football IQ to pick apart opponents during late game drives. Either QB can put six on the board with every snap.
OVERALL ADVANTAGE: CAM
It is going to be the best quarterback match-up in years and there is no way to tell who will win for sure, and that’s why they have to play the game. HollywoodLife.com has the overall advantage in the Super Bowl going to Cam, whose larger than life playmaking ability is next level.
