We are totally heartbroken over Dave Mirra’s apparent suicide, and can’t even imagine what his close friends, like TJ Lavin, are going through. The MTV ‘Challenge’ host took to Instagram to share a touching new tribute for his late pal, and urged anyone who might be in the same situation as him to get help. See his message here.
TJ Lavin, 39, is absolutely devastated over the sudden and unexpected loss of his friend, Dave Mirra, 41. Hours after the BMX rider’s tragic death, TJ posted a long post on social media in remembrance of his buddy, while also giving an encouraging message to others who are contemplating suicide.
“Dave always had the best stories. He was one of the funniest people you could ever know and was super quick witted,” he wrote. “I could give you a hundred examples of the thing he’s influenced me on. What a shock when I got the call from @kampkenan yesterday. Please know if you’re even thinking about doing something like this that its NOT the solution, EVER… please call someone and tell them you need help. It’s a permanent solution to a temporary problem. This goes out to anyone. Please get help there are people out there that will thank you…”
The 41-year-old was found in his truck in Greenville, North Carolina, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on Feb. 4. But just hours earlier, he was active on Instagram, sharing a photo of himself with his wife, Lauren, and the caption, “My rock! Thank god.” It certainly didn’t seem like something someone who planned on taking his own life would write, but perhaps it was the parting words that he wanted to leave her with.
Dave is best known as a BMX racer, and held the record for holding the most X-Games medals until 2013. He is also a triathlon athlete, and hosted two seasons of The Challenge on MTV. Besides Lauren, Dave also leaves behind two gorgeous daughters. Our hearts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
