Beer and exercise don’t typically go together but according to Michelob Ultra’s Super Bowl 50 commerical now they do! And hey, that’s great news for all of us who love to have our — ahem — beer and drink it too. Watch how the beverage brand unites athleticism and beer in a surprising yet super sexy way!
Michelob Ultra’s Super Bowl ad is pretty much the exact opposite of a beer commercial. There’s no horses, no adorable puppies, and it definitely doesn’t pull at your heartstrings. Instead, it appeals to something far more powerful — our desire to look and feel good. Cue the hotties sweating in sexy workout gear! Trust us, this beautifully shot bit will inspire you to hit the gym without feeling guilty about your trip to the bar, it’s a win-win.
The 30-second spot shows people deeply inhaling and exhaling during or after their workouts. These people are going HARD and working up a sweat — but we’re guessing they know how to enjoy a cold beer at the end of the day too. After all, the ad’s aim is to show that social drinking and healthy, active lifestyles are not mutually exclusive. Because who doesn’t like a beer that boasts just 95 calories and 2.6 carbs per bottle right after a five-mile run, am I right?
The commercial, called “Breathe,” is the brand’s first Super Bowl appearance since 2010, and for this year’s spot they pulled out all the stops. “Breathe” is artistically directed by Antoine Fuqua, a film and TV director who is most well-known for directing the thriller Training Day, which stars Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawk. The commercial is slotted to run after kickoff on Sunday, which is an extremely coveted slot.
Beer ads notoriously overwhelm Super Bowl commerical breaks, and this year will be no exception. You can look forward to Budweiser bringing back its trademark Clydesdale horses, Shock Top recruiting comedian T.J. Miller to argue with a cheeky orange, and Amy Schumer and Seth Rogen getting political for Bud Light…while wearing Spanx!
But no matter how many beer ads may crowd the Super Bowl on Feb. 7, we’re sure Michelob Ultra’s ad will standout amongst the crowd. Because let’s be real, fitness and beer? Who knew!
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of Michelob Ultra’s Super Bowl ad: is it unusual for a beer commerical?
