Hunger can ruin anything, including one of the most iconic scenes in Hollywood history. A starving Marilyn Monroe transforms into a very cranky Willem Dafoe in a new Snickers Super Bowl commercial, right before he flashes an entire film crew. Click to watch!
It’s one of the most legendary moments in film: Marilyn Monroe standing over a subway grate with the wind blowing up her white dress. So, why not make this scene better by replacing her with Academy Award nominated actor, Willem Dafoe, 60?
No, it isn’t a digital enhanced version of Marilyn’s 1955 classic, The Seven Year Itch. It’s a new Super Bowl commercial from Snickers. The ad, which will play during Super Bowl 50 on Feb. 7, sees Willem wearing the iconic dress while standing over the grate from the movie. The wind blows the skirt up in Willem’s face, causing him to show the world his tighty-whities. Needless to say, the Platoon actor is not happy.
“This is a disaster! Who’s the genius who puts a girl in heels on a subway grate?” Wait – while Willem has a point, did he just say girl? Well, funny thing – a stagehand comes in and addresses Willem as “Ms. Monroe” before handing over a Snickers bar. One bite later and Marilyn is back to her gorgeous self! She shoots the scene happily, right before Eugene Levy, 69, pops out of nowhere!
“I have to admit playing a Hollywood bombshell is a new challenge for me,” Willem said in a statement, according to AdWeek. “But as a huge fan of Marilyn Monroe, I just couldn’t resist the opportunity to take a walk in her shoes and famous white dress.”
Clever fans were able to deduce that it Willem channeling Ms. Monroe when he sang “Happy Birthday” in a teaser for the ad. Despite the surprise being ruined, the results are pretty epic. Snickers definitely had to top itself, as during the 2015 Super Bowl, they had a commercial that had both Danny Trejo, 71, and Steve Buscemi, 58, as Marsha and Jan Brady of The Brady Bunch!
Super Bowl 50 is going to get pretty weird with its commercials. Steven Tyler is going to try to teach his Skittles doppelganger how to sing. Ryan Reynolds is going to play football with himself. Plus, Mountain Dew is going to introduce the world to the PuppyMonkeyBaby. Compared to these spots, seeing Willem in a dress is practically normal.
