Andy will be the slight underdog going into the match. This is his fifth Australian Open Final appearance. He’ll be hoping to add a third major title to his name, but he will be wary of his difficult-to-beat opponent. CLICK TO WATCH THE LIVE STREAM!
On the other hand, Novak has been in formidable form, dropping just three sets in six matches at Melbourne Park. He has destroyed everybody he has played, including rival Roger Federer in the semi-finals.
Andy is already talking down his chances of winning. “It’s one tennis match, it doesn’t matter what’s happened in the past really,” he told BBC. And he better believe that. The pair have met 30 times in all competitions, with Novak well on top with 21 wins to Andy’s 9. Three of those victories for Novak were Australian Open Finals in 2011, 2013 and 2015. So, Andy will be all out for revenge this time around.
A Novak victory would see him level up with Sweden’s Bjorn Borg and Australian Rod Laver for 11 Grand Slam title wins. “These are the kind of matches that you work for. These are the kind of occasions that define you as a tennis player,” said the reigning Australian, Wimbledon and US Open champion.
