So sad. Vanessa Hudgens’ dad succumbed to cancer on Saturday, Jan. 30, just 24 hours before the actress was set to perform in Fox’s ‘Grease: Live.’ The actress confirmed the sad news on Twitter — see her message here.
Vanessa Hudgens is likely going to be holding back tears when she appears on live TV Jan. 31 during Fox’s Grease: Live, as her dad, Greg Hudgens, died on Saturday, Jan. 30. He succumbed to cancer, the actress confirmed on Twitter.
“I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage 4 cancer. Thank you to everyone who kept him in your prayers,” Vanessa wrote on Twitter this morning. Sadly, the timing couldn’t be any worse. In just a few hours, Vanessa will be performing on live TV. So not only will Greg miss his daughter’s highly-anticipated performance, but we can imagine it won’t be easy for her to get through the show.
Just last week, Vanessa was begging her fans to pray for her dad, who was battling stage 4 cancer. “Hey guys. My dad isn’t doing too well. Please say a prayer for him! It would mean a lot to me,” Vanessa tweeted on Jan. 24. And she first revealed his illness at the 2015 Industry Dance Awards stage on Aug. 19. While accepting the award for Breakthrough Performance, she said, “Last year, my boyfriend, Austin [Butler], lost his mom, Lori, to cancer, and my dad has just been recently diagnosed with stage four cancer. Let me tell you, I hate cancer. I hate cancer with every cell of my being. This award, it means a lot to me but I dedicate it to my boyfriend’s mom, Lori, my dad, and to all the families out there who are struggling with this, because it really takes a strong person and a strong family to be able to help those out who are going through this.”
Our thoughts go out to Vanessa’s family and friends during this difficult time.
