Atletico are licking their wounds after a disappointing elimination from the Copa Del Ray, according to Goal.com. They lost at home to Celta Vigo on Jan. 27 in a heartbreaking quarterfinal match. With Real Madrid also eliminated, it looks like the Copa is Barcelona’s to lose.
“The team is hurting,” Atletico Madrid team captain Gabi said. “When you don’t win in a competition that we like, when the fans come to cheer and have contributed so much, the dressing room is disappointed.”
Is there more disappointment in Aletico’s future? Barcelona has the best home record in La Liga, according to Sofa Score. They have given up seven goals in 11 matches while scoring 38 of their own. Plus, they’re on a seven game win streak, with their last loss being an Oct. 2015 defeat by Sevilla.
Despite this, Atletico are tied with Barca at the top of the La Liga table for a reason. They are undefeated in 17 of their last 19 away matches in the league and they’ve won their last three away games without conceding a single goal. Still, Barca hasn’t lost their last nine home games against Aletico and they look to make it an even-10.
Gerard Pique is back with Barcelona, following a suspension. Jordi Alba is questionable, and it’s likely that Jeremy Mathieu will take his place. Neymar was dealing with a hamstring issue, but he should be able to play for Barcelona. On Atletico’s side, Fernando Torres and Tiago are sitting this game out due to injuries.
Who do you want to win this game, HollywoodLifers? Barcelona or Atlético Madrid?
