‘Orange is the New Black’ is ruling everything! Uzo Aduba just took home the SAG Award for Outstanding Female in a TV Comedy — and she was up against some serious competition!
Uzo Aduba was the first winner of the night at the 22nd annual SAG Awards — and she deserved it. The Orange Is The New Black star was up agains Edie Flaco for Nurse Jackie, Ellie Kemper for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Julie Louis Dreyfus for Veep and Amy Poehler for Parks & Recreation. That is quite the competition!
Uzo, AKA “Crazy Eyes,” started out her speech by saying thank you to the Screen Actors Guild and the SAG-Afrtra and was very genuinely touched. She then thanked her team for “the bravery you have shown for our show.” The Netflix show obviously has been a huge hit and its fourth season will hit Netflix next Summer.
She also thanked the “phenomenal cast” — and yes they are, the show also went on to win Outstanding Comedy Series! She wrapped up the speech (which was perfectly short and sweet) ending on a very touching note.
“I would like to take an opportunity to acknowledge the actors who are at home — not here in this room with us, hoping to one day be in this room with us — to continue to keep trying, to keep plugging, to keep working,” she said after tearing up. “No matter if anybody tells you to get out of that line you’re waiting, in stay in line. You have the chance, it is yours.”
You can watch that segment in the video below, then let us know if you’re happy with the win. Do you think she was the right choice? Let us know, HollywoodLifers?
