Congratulations to Queen Latifah! The ‘Bessie’ star won the coveted SAG Award for Outstanding Female in a TV Movie/Mini Series, and she rightly deserved it. It was a close race, but in the end, Queen Latifah was the mightiest woman!
Congratulations to Queen Latifah, 45! The phenomenal actress, who starred as Bessie Smith in HBO’s Bessie, had one of the best performances of the year — TV, movies, mini series — better than anyone. And she was praised for it by winning Outstanding Female in a TV Movie/Mini Series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on January 30! Her stunning speech about finding herself in Hollywood was an incredible moment that capped off a fantastic win!
It was so hard to pick whose performance we loved the most in 2015 for this category, but the Screen Actors Guild managed to do so! Queen Latifah’s remarkable turn in Bessie was something to remember. All five ladies nominated were already incredible stars, so each movie and mini series was clearly going to be impressive from the get go. Queen Latifah just proved that she was the ultimate of the ultimate!
The TV movie centered upon the life of Bessie Smith, the legendary blues singer of the 1920s and 1930s who changed the genre and led a remarkable life. Nicknamed “The Empress of Blues,” Bessie is one of the most important artists in American popular music, undoubtedly. It was only fitting that someone as talented as Queen Latifah would be chosen to portray her. Have you ever heard that powerhouse voice? Yeah, we thought so!
This is Queen Latifah’s second SAG award, actually. She won the award once before, for her role as Big Mama Morton in the movie musical Chicago. We have a feeling that she’s going to take it home again next year!
