It’s finally Leonardo DiCaprio’s year, as he’s plowed through Awards season picking up trophies right and left for his brutal performance in ‘The Revanent,’ and now he’s nabbed the SAG Awards for Best Actor, an honor from his own peers!
YES!!! Leonardo DiCaprio is now one step closer to an Oscar, by getting the nod as Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role from the Screen Actor’s Guild. There’s nothing like fellow actors bestowing such an honor, and with this award he’s pretty much a lock to win at the Academy Awards…finally! Can you believe he’s been nominated NINE TIMES for a SAG Award and this is his FIRST win?!
The room was clearly on his side as Leo got a standing ovation from the star-studded crowd, and his peers are definitely behind his work as a frontiersman left for dead who goes on a revenge mission. As he took the stage he said, “I am truly humbled by this, it comes from my fellow actors, thank you from the bottom of my heart.” He added that he watched so many films growing up and that, “For any young actors I encourage you to watch the history of cinema…we stand on the shoulder of giants.”
Earlier on the red carpet Leo said of The Revanent, “When you work so hard on a film and you put so much thought into it…I think people appreciate the effort put into it. It was an epic art-house film,” while noting that “it was almost like an epic journey instead of doing a movie.” Check out Leo’s amazing performance in The Wolf Of Wall Street by clicking here.
Leo was up against the nearly exact same field he triumphed over at the Critics Choice Awards Jan. 17, where he beat out Bryan Cranston for Trumbo, Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs, Eddie Redmayne‘s turn in The Danish Girl and Johnny Depp in Black Mass. But this is finally Leo’s year and we know he’s going to go all the way to the Oscars after getting his fifth acting nomination.
HollywoodLifers, do you think Leo will finally get an Oscar in 2016?
