‘Grease’ is the word around town! Jessie J will be singing the opening number of ‘Grease’ in the Jan. 31 premiere! Click to WATCH Jessie and the ‘Grease: Live’ cast sing a recording of the classic tune!
All hail Jessie J! The 27-year-old singer and the Grease: Live cast will be taking on the iconic opening number of the original Grease for the Jan. 31 musical event. Jessie does one heck of a job taking over for Frankie Valli, and you’re about to be listening to this song on repeat!
Wow. Jessie J can really sing. The “Bang Bang” singer sings Frankie’s vocal in “Grease” for the Grease: Live event. Jessie admits that she wants to keep the recording as close to the original as possible, but she has to put a little spin on it to make it her own.
“I’ve definitely kind of thrown in what I kind of like to do, which is a lot of this and a lot of this,” she said in an interview. “Just put a little bit of me in it.”
She’s going to be the first person we see when Grease: Live premieres, and she confesses that she will definitely be nervous. “There’s no pressure like being the first one on stage,” she noted. “I love that rush of the nerves I’m going to get, I just feel very honored and very lucky that I’ve been asked to experience something like this.”
The rest of the cast, including Julianne Hough, Aaron Tveit, Vanessa Hudgens, Carlos PenaVega and Keke Palmer, can be seen in the video rehearsing the song. In addition, Boyz II Men will be taking on the guardian angel role made famous by Frankie when he sang “Beauty School Dropout.” DNCE will be the band that performs at Rydell High’s school dance.
