Death Wish Coffee sells a brew as powerful as a Viking horde, and soon, everyone will know about the makers of ‘The World’s Strongest Coffee.’ They won the Quickbooks ‘Small Business Big Game’ contest, which gives them a free commercial spot during Super Bowl 50! Click to watch it!
Three cheers for the little guy! Death Wish Coffee, a small business brewing up some big dreams, will now get a chance to grow their company. Death Wish won a chance to have their commercial play on the biggest stage of the year — the Super Bowl!
The thirty-second clip, which will play during Super Bowl 50 on Feb. 7, features a Viking ship with Death Wish Coffee’s logo on the sails. “What is life, if not to die a glorious death,” the ship’s captain shouts. “Fear not, for tonight we drink in the halls of Valhalla!” As the ship seems to plunge over the edge of the world, it turns out that they’re actually diving down the throat of a Death Wish Coffee customer.
Considering Death Wish claims to be the “strongest coffee in the world,” comparing each drink to being a cup full of Vikings seems to be an appropriate metaphor. Fans agreed, as the commercial won the QuickBooks Small Business Big Game contest. Keep in mind — a 30-second spot could cost as much as $5 million dollars, according to Fortune, so this is a big deal!
More than 15,000 businesses entered for a chance to have a commercial air during the Super Bowl, according to a post on Death Wish Coffee’s site. After a lengthy campaign that motivated their “diligent, loyal and admirable” fans to vote, the Upstate New York company was named the winner!
Death Wish Coffee’s ad will now be seen by millions of viewers, alongside some famous companies — like Snickers. While there aren’t any Vikings in the candy bar’s ad, they did get Marilyn Monroe. Sort-of. Snickers gave a preview of the commercial that will debut during the big game, and Marilyn sounds a little different.
There’s one ad that will not be aired during Super Bowl 50, and that’s PETA’s super-raunchy, sex spilled spot. The extremely-NSFW commercial suggests that going vegan would improve someone’s love life. While it’s humorous, it’s obvious as to why it wasn’t going to make the cut. Still, fans will get commercials for coffee and candy and that’s as good — if not better — than sex, right?
What do you think about Death Wish Coffee’s ad, HollywoodLifers? Are you going to look for it during the Super Bowl?
