Marilyn Monroe is that you?! In this hilarious sneak peek at Snicker’s highly-anticipated Super Bowl 5o commercial, the Hollywood legend reprises her iconic “Happy Birthday” performance for one night only. The only problem? She’s super hangry and it totally shows! See for yourself here!
The Super Bowl is turning 50 this year and to celebrate, Snickers is bringing back one of Hollywood’s biggest icons — that’s right, Marilyn Monroe! Well, sort of. In a just-released teaser for the brand’s highly-anticipated Super Bowl commercial, a hangry Marilyn prepares to reprise her iconic “Happy Birthday” performance to celebrate the game’s 50th anniversary, only this time it appears she’s let her hunger get the best of her. Get the hilarious first look here!
She may be America’s original sweetheart, but when she’s hungry, Marilyn Monroe takes a turn for the worse. Or so it seems anyways in Snickers’ new Super Bowl ad teaser, in which she reprises her iconic “Happy Birthday” serenade, but with a far less seductive voice than we’re used to hearing.
“Since we’re kicking-off the ’50’ celebration of one of the world’s most iconic events it seemed only fitting to cast Marilyn Monroe, a Hollywood icon with global appeal, to help us celebrate,” said Allison Miazga-Bedrick, director, Snickers Brand. “But this is just a small glimpse of what America should expect from Snickers on Super Bowl Sunday. As always the ad will feature a funny surprise that we’re confident will satisfy fans hungry for a laugh.”
That surprise of course, is based on the fact that it’s not actually Marilyn singing on stage, but rather her hangry persona, who at first glance appears to be played here by actor Willem Dafoe (a.k.a The Green Gobline in 2002’s Spider-Man). While the brand has yet to verify that fact, they have confirmed that the ad is a continuation of their “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” campaign, which was represented last year with a spot starring Danny Trejo and Steve Buscemi in a Brady Bunch parody that AdWeek later named the second best ad of 2015.
As for this year’s most-anticipated commercials, we’ve already seen teasers for Bud Light’s ad starring the hilarious Amy Schumer and Seth Rogen, as well as one for Pokémon‘s 20th anniversary. Needless to say, football won’t be the only thing we’ll be looking forward to come Super Bowl Sunday.
