Great news! Miley Cyrus is finally returning to where her career began – on TV! The ‘Wrecking Ball’ singer has agreed to star in Amazon’s new six part series by directing legend Woody Allen, and we couldn’t be more excited!
Hallelujah! Miley Cyrus is finally going to be showing us her grown-up acting skills, as she’s thrilled to be starring in Woody Allen‘s first TV foray. So many people grew up watching her on Hannah Montana as a teenager, but once she left that show it was all about her music career for the 23-year-old. But now that she’s had number one hits, a massive world tour and become a pop superstar, its time to reveal what she’s got as an adult actress, and she couldn’t have found a more incredible part to show us her chops!
While the details about their new project are being kept mum for time being, here are five things to know about Miley and Woody’s upcoming collaboration:
1. This will be Woody’s first TV series.
The legendary film director has over 50 films to his credit, but at the age of 80 has decided to make his first foray into a television show. He’ll even be starring in the series alongside Miley, in addition to his behind the camera greatness!
2. Miley planned to take the year off but jumped at the chance to work with Woody.
When the news broke, Miley took to her Instagram and posted a painting of the director and said “Stoked to be in Woody Allen’s first series!!!!! I had claimed 2016 to be my year of ‘chillin the f–k out,’ but next to my bed for a few years now has been this portrait of W.A. & I was looking into his eyes when I got the call to be a part of the cast.” Wait, Miley has a painting of Woody Allen next to her BED?!
3. The show will be set in the 1960’s.
We can’t wait to see Miley all dressed up in the clothes of that era. Now that Mad Men is no longer on the air, we’re jonesing to see the looks of that time again and how well Miley will pull it off.
4. Miley will be co-starring alongside the great Elaine May.
What a coup! The 83-year-old comedy/acting legend will be joining Miley in the cast. Elaine has been hard at work since the 1950’s and was part of the legendary and groundbreaking “Nichols & May” improvisational comedy team that featured the late director Mike Nichols.
5. The series will be a brief commitment.
The yet-untitled half hour show will only shoot six episodes, so Miley will still have plenty of time to “chill out” in 2016 after all!
