Jessie Kahnweiler, 28, brought her web series The Skinny to the 2016 Sundance Film Festival along with actresses Illeana Douglas and Sadie Calvano.
“‘The Skinny’ is a dark comedic web series about a young, feminist comedian living in L.A., struggling with her relationships, her career, and trying to get over her bulimia,” Jessie told Charlie Berens of @hollywood on Sunday, Jan. 24 in Park City, Utah. “I was bulimic for over ten years and getting into recovery when I was around 27, I started to realize there was such a lack of stories that authentically exposed eating disorders for what they were in a real way.”
She continued, “I really wanted to create this show to really put this story out there and connect with other people that are still dealing with it.”
Interestingly enough, Jessie also said that when she wrote the pilot no one in Hollywood wanted to work with her because of the eating disorder aspect. Thankfully, it seems that Jessie got it off the ground and has a huge success on her hand now that they are at Sundance!
