After a long week of memorials and services for the deaths of Celine Dion’s husband Rene Angelil and brother Daniel Dion, she just couldn’t handle any more. Celine was simply ‘too devastated’ to attend her brother’s official funeral. We have the details.
Celine Dion, 47, did not attend her brother Daniel’s funeral on Jan. 25. After a long week of memorials, services, and a funeral for her deceased husband Rene Angelil, she was “too devastated” to muster up the strength to do it all over again. Here’s what we know.
The new year started off tragically for Celine. She lost her husband Rene and her brother Daniel within two days of each other, and since then it has been a marathon of events to mourn them. By the time of Daniel’s funeral, Celine was completely drained from all of it, and did not attend, according to ET.
However, Celine did have the opportunity to mourn her brother at a memorial service on Jan. 23, the day after Rene’s funeral. The service was held at Salon Charles Rajotte in Repentigny, Canada, and Celine and her kids opted to go to that and avoid the public funeral to be help at St-Simon-et-Jude parish in Charlemagne, Quebec. The family was raised there, and it would just be too devastating.
Daniel was one of Celine’s 13 brothers and sisters, but he was 12 years her senior, as she was the youngest. He passed away on Jan. 16 at age 59, having been afflicted by brain, tongue and throat cancer which eventually took his life. Rene also died of cancer. Our hearts go out to Celine during this difficult time.
