Katie Couric, 59, joined director Stephanie Soechtig at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival on Sunday, Jan. 24, to explain why their documentary, Under The Gun, is so important to the seemingly never-ending gun control argument in America.
“We tried to explore both the people who had been affected by mass shootings, by Isla Vista, by what happened at Sandy Hook elementary, the Aurora theater,” Katie explained. “And we also explored what is happening every day in many inner cities across the country, specifically Chicago.” That’s how she describes Under The Gun, a documentary she produced and debuted at the 2015 Sundance Festival.
Both Katie and the doc’s director, Stephanie Soechtig, sat with Charlie Berens from @hollywood to discuss their latest project.
“These families trusted us to tell their stories,” Katie continued. “I think what you got is a real glimpse of just how it’s so life shattering when you lose a loved one to gun violence.”
Stephanie chimed in by saying, “You will not look at the gun debate the same way.” On top of that, Katie shared some very interesting statistics about the NRA and how many members are actually pro-proper gun control.
