Amandla Stenberg sat down for an interview at Sundance about her new film ‘As You Are’ with Director Miles Joris-Peyrafitte and actor Owen Campbell. The actress says she loved this film because she ‘really connected’ to it. See why here!
Actress Amandla Stenberg, 17, couldn’t say enough great things about her new film As You Are during a Sundance interview on Jan. 25. The film’s director Miles Joris-Peyrafitte explains how she put her own spin on the coming of age story, and it sounds fantastic. Check it out, here!
Amandla was so excited to be in As You Are because she really related to the movie. “I wanted to get involved in the project because I’m someone who’s kind of stepping into adulthood for the first time. So to read a script, a coming of age story that I really connected to and felt deeply, was really exhilarating and important to me.”
Miles explains that the film is about kids “figuring out where they fit in, where their feelings for each other fit in, how the relationship to their parents fits in to all of that, and how their parents kind of represent the culture at large that they’re trying to navigate.” He couldn’t have been happier with Amandla’s work in the film. “I got very lucky in terms of who we had playing these roles. Everyone had their own frame of reference and everyone had their own idea of it, and for me that’s way better than anything I could tell them to do.” See what else they had to say about the film in the video!
