Elijah Wood, 34, and his producing partners were so excited to bring their unique film, The Greasy Strangler, to the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. In this interview, Elijah explains why it was so important to make The Greasy Strangler, while his partners explain what the film is about without giving any spoilers.
“And deeply hilarious,” Elijah tells @hollywood‘s Charlie Berens after hearing all of the NSFW words used to describe his latest film, The Greasy Strangler. The catch? Elijah doesn’t star in this one, he helped produce it!
Elijah sat down to chat about the film along with his producing partners, Josh Waller and Daniel Noah, and the director, Jim Hosking. Between the four of them, the excitement about The Greasy Strangler was totally through the roof as they all explained why it was such an amazing project to work on.
“For me the main thing was to make something that felt really, totally different to anything else out there,” Jim explained. Josh joined in to share, “The script was so bizarre, but hysterical, I mean throughout. It was so unique we were like, ‘God I feel like we all have to ban together and make this because this film might not get made if we don’t.” And so they did!
The Greasy Strangler is the tale of a father-son run disco walking tour that quickly turns into a competition when a sexy lady comes to join them. Meanwhile, a serial strangler stalks the streets at night and keeps everyone on their toes.
“It’s the most exciting film you’re ever gonna see if you see it,” Jim said at the every end of the interview. It sure sounds like it!
