Well, it certainly took winter a while to get here, but Winter Storm Jonas has changed all of that in less than 24 hours. Don’t worry, East Coasters, this isn’t going to last forever! Heavy snow is expected to continue in the mid-Atlantic throughout Saturday night, but by Sunday, all precipitation associated with this brutal storm is expected to pass, according to the Weather Channel. The clean-up certainly won’t be fun on Jan. 24, but by sunrise, the snow will stop falling, and temperatures will begin rising throughout the day.
While areas more south, like Washington D.C. and Maryland, got hit hard on Jan. 22, it’ll be NYC and Philadelphia who will get the brunt of the storm as Saturday continues. Before Jonas passes on Sunday, the more northern cities are expected to receive another 5-8 inches, while areas further South will only get another 1-3.
As of Saturday afternoon, the highest snow fall was recorded in Glengary, West Virginia, where 40 inches has dropped so far! At least ten have been reported dead in storm-related accidents, and cars are stranded on highway in Pennsylvania and Kentucky, where they’ve been stuck on frozen roads for hours. To (hopefully) prevent this from happening in lower New York, Governor Cuomo has issued a travel ban.
Hundreds of thousands have also been left without power due to the strong winds brought on by the storms, and 11 states — Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia and Tennessee — have declared states of emergency. Stay inside, everyone!
HollywoodLifers, how did you deal with Winter Storm Jonas?! What did you do for the snow day?
