It looks like the drama surrounding the Oscars boycott has officially spilled over onto host Chris Rock! A source tells HollywoodLife.com that the comedian is ‘nervous as hell’ about getting up on stage next month after feeling pressure from his peers to drop out in protest. Get the EXCLUSIVE details below!
Yikes! Things aren’t looking so good for Chris Rock‘s, 50, upcoming Oscars gig. After receiving a ton of pressure from fans and celebrities alike, a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that the comedian is now second-guessing his appearance at the show as he’s terrified of disappointing either side!
To boycott, or not to boycott? That’s the tough question Chris has been forced to ask himself following the start of the #OscarsSoWhite movement and by the sound of it, things aren’t working out too well for him.
“Chris is really in bad position,” a source told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “He’s no Dr. King or Malcolm X; he’s just an actor, living out his career. He didn’t ask to be thrown in the middle of this war between the Academy and the black establishment. Right now, he feels like he’s in living in an episode of Everybody Hates Chris. He’s trying to do the right thing, but he’s being pulled in two different directions. And no matter which direction he goes — hosting the Oscars or backing out last minute — one of the two sides is going to hate his decision.”
“Chris is stuck, and the whole world is watching him like he’s Obama,” our source continued. “He’s nervous as hell, and quite frankly, doesn’t know whether to host the show as planned or back out of it all together like many of his peers have been asking him to do.”
Tyrese, 50 Cent & More Urge Chris Rock Not To Host The Oscars
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Chris was unfortunately dragged into the debate after such famous faces as this year’s honorary award winner Spike Lee, and Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, vowed to not watch the awards show in protest against its failure to nominate a single actor of color across the top categories. Though both Spike and Jada wishes Chris all the best with his hosting gig, no everyone was as supportive. Namely, 50 Cent and Tyrese Gibson, both of whom took to social media to urge the SNL alum to drop out.
“Chris please do not do the oscars awards. You mean a lot man, don’t do it. Please,” Fifty wrote in his caption of a photo (which he later deleted) of the influential comedian. Tyrese later posted a screenshot of articles questioning whether Chris would continue to host amidst the controversy, writing, “Chris Rock do the right thing make a statement – were relying on you to DO the right thing….. There is NO JOKE YOU CAN CRACK TO EVER CHANGE THE WAY WE ALL FEEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place huh?
