To get into character for ‘American Crime Story,’ David Schwimmer went to the person who knew Robert Kardashian best: his ex-wife, Kris Jenner. Kris and David’s conversation shed light on the man she loved, and the man he wanted to portray.
When David Schwimmer, 49, was cast as the late Robert Kardashian in American Crime Story: The People v. OJ Simpson, he needed to dive deeper into the character. So he spoke to Robert’s ex-wife, Kris Jenner, 60, over the phone. The two had a touching conversation that helped Kris know what this show was about, and gave David some insight into Robert as a person. Did you know he liked Ross?
Kris spoke to PEOPLE magazine about seeing the miniseries that chronicles the murder trial of OJ Simpson, in which her ex-husband Robert served as his friend’s defense attorney. It’s obviously an emotional event for Kris and her family, and David wanted to make sure that he got everything about Robert right.
“[David] more or less wanted to know about Robert as a person and was really interested in that, which I really appreciated,” Kris told PEOPLE mag about their conversation when they “spent hours on the phone.” They talked everything about Robert, and his infamous case. Kris wasn’t all serious and solemn business with David though; she shared a sweet detail with David about her late ex-husband that he definitely wasn’t expecting to hear!
“Robert was one of David’s biggest fans when they were doing Friends, back in the day – he watched it religiously. So it was kind of, you know, wild that he is playing Robert,” Kris said. How amazing must have that been for David to hear? A legend whom he’s playing on a hot TV show once idolized him! It’s interesting to hear that he talked to Kris, after he said he refused to meet with the Kardashians about the role. Well, he was technically telling the truth!
