Well, this just got ugly! Janet Hubert, a.k.a the original Aunt Viv on ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’, served up some serious shade to Jada Pinkett Smith on Jan. 18 when she posted a video slamming the ‘Magic Mike XXL’ star for threatening to boycott the Oscars. Seriously, prepare to witness some MAJOR sass!
The shade is so real! Janet Hubert — better known as the
best original Aunt Viv on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air — came out swinging at her former co-star Will Smith, 47, and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, 44, on Jan. 18, when she posted a 4-minute long video slamming the Magic Mike XXL star’s call to boycott the Oscars. As it turns out, Aunt Viv was having none of “Miss Thing’s” (oh yeah, that happened) comments about the awards show’s lack of diversity, and you better believe she let her know all about it. Watch it here!
We can’t even handle the level of sass Janet is dealing out in this video! After Jada blasted the Academy Awards for snubbing her husband and other black actors in a YouTube video posted on Jan. 18, Janet responded with a video of her own and boy, did she let her have it! “First of all, Miss Thing does your man not have a mouth of his own with which to speak?” the 60-year-old began.
“The second thing, girlfriend, there’s a lot of s— going on in the world that you all don’t seem to recognize. People are dying. Our boys are being shot left and right. People are starving. People are trying to pay bills. And you’re talking about some motherf—ing actors and Oscars. It just ain’t that deep,” she continued.
Oh snap! Things only continued to get worse from there though as Janet then criticized Jada for speaking out on behalf of other black actors and actresses. “And here’s the other thing, for you to ask other actors, and other black actresses and actors, too, to jeopardize their career and their standing in a town that you know damn well you don’t do that,” she said.
“And here’s the other thing – they don’t care. They don’t care! And I find it ironic that somebody who has made their living, and made millions and millions of dollars from the very people you’re talking about boycotting just because you didn’t get a nomination, just because you didn’t win,” she continued.
While it’s been over 20 years since Janet was replaced on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (remember that not-so-subtle switcharoo the show tried to pull on us?), it turns out she still has plenty of bad blood with Jada’s husband Will, and you better believe she made sure to comment on that too. “Well karma must be a b***h, cause now here you are. Here you are, you’ve had a few flops and you know there are those out there who really deserved a nod,” she said.
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Jada called out the Academy Awards’s lack of diversity in a video posted to Twitter and Facebook accounts on Jan. 18, in which she threatened to boycott the Oscars all together. “At the Oscars…people of color are always welcomed to give out awards…even entertain,” Jada wrote on Twitter. “But we are rarely recognized for our artistic accomplishments. Should people of color refrain from participating all together? People can only treat us in the way in which we allow. With much respect in the midst of deep disappointment.”
Jada ended her video, which was in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, by wishing Oscar host Chris Rock, good luck. “Hey Chris,” she said. “I will not be at the Academy Awards and I won’t be watching, but I can’t think of a better man to do the job at hand this year than you, my friend. Good luck!”
