Jeff Franklin, creator of ‘Fuller House,’ is just as heartbroken over the Olsens refusing to appear on the Netflix spinoff, but he hasn’t completely given up hope just yet!
When we think about Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen not returning for Fuller House, we have one thing to say: “how rude!” However, don’t rule out the twins just yet. While the series hits Netflix on Feb. 26 and Michelle Tanner won’t exactly be there, creator Jeff Franklin just revealed he’s “still hopeful” that one of them (or both) will return!

“I am still hopeful that Mary-Kate or Ashley or both of them will come back and be a part of it, even if it’s just for an hour,” Jeff told E! News, when asked about season two. “We miss that. Everybody does feel that hole in the family. But it’s like, all family reunions, there’s always somebody that doesn’t show up. But hopefully next time around, we’ll have them back.” Jeff added that he was “disappointed,” but understood their reasoning. “No hard feelings, but I really was hoping to get that picture.” Well, we were too, Jeff!
Of course, there would be an elephant in the room if the cast just acted like Michelle Tanner didn’t exist — so they do approach it in the first episode, when an audience member asks “Where’s Michelle?” It is then explained that the youngest Tanner is “too busy with her clothing line,” and the line is then followed by the entire cast looking into the camera. However, don’t take that as a dig at the girls, Jeff told reporters during TCA. “It was meant to be a playful wink.”
While the girls weren’t completely comfortable returning to acting, HollywoodLife.com also spoke to an insider who said that the twins are waiting for another reason — they aren’t sure how it will be perceived. “There is still a chance we will see the Olsen Twins on the show in the future and in a future season,” our source said. “The girls are going to wait and see it and see how it is accepted before they move forward with it. They both understand that there is a lot of excitement surrounding it but they keep asking the question, ‘What if it is bad?’ They are in a wait and see mode right now but there is certainly a chance they may show up in the future based on its success.”
