Matt Mitrione’s mangled eye proves that MMA is a very dangerous sport. Matt survived the fight with Ronda Rousey’s bae, Travis Browne, but he’s not going to win any beauty contests soon. Click to watch the devastating blows and see the gruesome aftermath.
We got to feel bad for Matt Mitrione, 37. Even though UFC isn’t really ballet, Matt looked absolutely terrible after suffering a knockout, courtesy of Travis Browne, 33. The boyfriend of Ronda Rousey, 28, landed a series of destructive punches across Matt’s eye during the fight and the results, needless to say, were not pretty.
Matt earned the gross, swollen lump on his eye when he and Travis met in the octagon at UFC Fight Night 81 on Jan. 17, according to the New York Post. During the battle, Matt suffered two separate eye pokes from Travis, but it was a third-round punch that clearly caused the majority of the damage to Matt’s eye.
The ref decided not to penalize Travis for the eye pokes, and Matt continued to blink his way through the rest of the bout, according to Fox Sports. It looked like the ringside doctor was going to get involved to stop the fight. Instead, the fight stopped after Travis nailed brutal suplex and some destructive shots on his opponent.
Though the golf ball-sized lump on Matt’s head looks pretty scary, UFC president Dana White, 46, defended Travis over the eye-poking accusations. “They showed it on the instant replay in slow motion, and before he hit him, it was fine,” White told MMAjunkie. “Before he hit him, his eye was fine. When he hit him? The eye started to swell up and blow right up.”

If there’s anyone who can sympathize with Matt, it’s Ronda. Her knockout loss to Holly Holm, 34, is still fresh in her mind. Ronda will get her chance to recover her UFC Bantamweight Women’s Championship in the most anticipated rematch in UFC history, but not until Holly takes on Miesha Tate, 29.
In the meantime, Ronda is getting ready for the battle while also enjoying her romance with Travis. Travis calls Ronda his “sweetheart,” and these two looked so cute while they passionately kissed after her rematch with Holly was announced. With how lovey-dovey they are together, it’s hard to believe they are some of the most dangerous fighters on the planet.
What do you think about Travis leaving Matt’s eye a total mess, HollywoodLifers? Were you hoping Matt would win or were you team Travis?
