Could Celine Dion be paying tribute to those she has lost in song. HollywoodLife.com was hearing that Celine was considering performing a musical tribute before laying her late husband, Rene Angelil, to rest at his funeral. Now, we have all the EXCLUSIVE details.
While Celine Dion‘s husband, Rene Angelil, was still alive, the 47-year-old singer was incredibly vocal about her love for him. She sadly had to say goodbye to the man she called the “only boyfriend” she ever had on Jan. 14. There were rumors that Celine planned to declare her love for Rene once more at his funeral with a touching performance dedicated to him and their life together. HollywoodLife.com now has the truth.
In speaking to Celine’s rep, Hollywoodlife.com has come to learn that this rumor is false, and that Celine will grieve with her family without a performance. While it would’ve been a lovely tribute, it’s completely understandable that Celine would take this time for quiet reflection with her children. It’s such a hard time for her.
Rene sadly lost his long battle with throat cancer on Jan. 14 at age 73, surrounded by Celine and his loved ones in their Las Vegas home. Not only had he and Celine been married for 21 years, but Rene managed her for over 30 years, so it was a devastating loss for Celine.
Even before Rene reached his final days, Celine was already honoring her cancer-stricken husband with some of her incredible performances. As Rene was in the heart of his cancer battle, Celine gave a touching rendition of her song “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” which featured a sweet video montage of Rene and their family.
As much as Celine loves performing, she wanted to be able to care for Rene while he was ill and took some time off from her Vegas residency to do so. But Rene was in fact the one who urged Celine to return to the stage, as he knew how much she adored performing. If Celine sings in Rene’s honor at his funeral, we’re sure he’ll be watching from heaven with a huge smile on his face.
