This is definitely Leonardo DiCaprio’s year, where he finally may win the Oscar he’s so deserving of. He picked up another big prize at the Jan. 17 Critics’ Choice Awards, being named Best Actor and it’s pretty clear he’s bulldozing a path to his ultimate prize.
Leonardo DiCaprio is totally owning awards season for his brutal and blistering struggle in The Revanent, and he’s racked up yet another honor, this time being named Best Actor at the 2016 Critics’ Choice Awards! He was feted for his portrayal of a frontiersman mauled by a bear and left for dead who goes on a revenge mission. On Jan. 14 he got his much deserved Oscar nomination and now this! What an amazing 2016 Leo’s having so far!
While he wasn’t there in person to pick up his trophy, he accepted in a statement via satellite from Europe where he is currently promoting The Revenant. He said, “Thank you so much for the award, I’m sorry I couldn’t have been there in person,” before adding its an “Absolutely incredible honor, it means so much to us. We owe it all to our director Alejandro Inaritu, and it’s an experience we’ll never forget. I personally thank you for your recognition.”
Leo was up against some stiff competition for the CCA against Bryan Cranston for Trumbo, Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs, Eddie Redmayne‘s turn in The Danish Girl, Johnny Depp in Black Mass and Matt Damon in The Martian, but Leo’s on fire right now after taking home the Golden Globe Award Jan. 10 for Best Actor in a Drama, even though Matt was also honored by the HFPA for his film, it was ridiculously put in the Best Comedy or Musical category. But it’s pretty clear, this awards season belongs to Leo and this is just another trophy on the way to his much sought after Oscar.
HollywoodLifers, do you think Leo will finally get his much deserved Oscar this year?
