With Cate Blanchett, Brie Larson, Jennifer Lawrence Charlotte Rampling, Saoirse Ronan and Charlize Theron all up for Best Actress at the Critics’ Choice Awards Jan. 17, there was clearly some stiff competition. But it was Brie who came out on top for her incredible performance in ‘Room.’
The ladies of Hollywood TOTALLY killed it this year, but only one could be named Best Actress at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Jan. 17. This year, the big award went to Brie Larson, 26, who completely killed it as Joy in Room. We’re so excited for her — this couldn’t have been more deserved!
Wow, what a run it’s been for Brie so far! Unfortunately, the gorgeous actress wasn’t at the awards show, so we didn’t get to see her give an acceptance speech, but we can imagine she’s overjoyed by this news. The 26-year-old won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama, so things are looking REALLY good for her in the Oscar race — it was revealed earlier this week that she’s nominated in the Best Actress category.
Brie’s Room costar, Jacob Tremblay, won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Young Actor/Actress, and the film has been getting a TON of buzz since its premiere in late 2015. While accepting her award at the Globes, Brie made sure to thank the preteen, calling him “half of this award,” as well Emma Donoghue, who wrote the book, Room, which was eventually adapted into the critically-acclaimed movie. In Room, Brie plays a young mother who is forced to raise her son in a tiny room for five years under the control of his abusive father. Eventually, Brie’s character organizes an escape plan lead by the five-year-old child, and the two must assimilate back into the real world, which is obviously an incredibly tough transition. If you haven’t read this book or seen the movie, you must do so NOW!
