Every time Tyler Lockwood randomly pops up on ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ it’s a good thing. And on February 5, it may be a great thing.
What could bring Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) back to little old Mystic Falls? Could it be his old BFF Matt (Zach Roerig) is in trouble? Could it be Alaric (Matthew Davis) needs his help? Or, and this is our favorite, could he want to see his ex, and dare I say, soulmate, Caroline (Candice King) again? Well, you can take your guesses before clicking in.

If you picked all of the above, you’d probably be right — with an emphasis on number three. Here’s the description for the episode 11 of the season, “Things We Lost in the Fire,” to air on Feb. 5. Side note, it’s also directed by Paul Wesley himself:
With the traumatic effects of the Phoenix stone taking a toll on his brother, Stefan attempts to help Damon regain his grip on reality, while secretly struggling with his own experience in the stone. Elsewhere, Matt and Bonnie deal with the fallout after Julian and his men take over Mystic Falls, leading Matt to spiral out of control and into trouble with an officer named Penny. Meanwhile, Tyler returns to town for Alaric’s baby shower and Caroline makes an upsetting discovery involving Alaric and his future plan for the babies.
Tyler at his ex’s baby shower — you know his ex, who’s dating another of his friends, but having twin babies with his old teacher. Yup, definitely The Vampire Diaries.
We know that three episodes later will be the crossover between TVD and The Originals and we’ll see yet another familiar face — Klaus (Joseph Morgan). Stefan will spend time with him, but “there is a presence of Caroline buried within that,” Julie Plec teased to our sister publication, Variety. So basically, everyone still loves Caroline (not that we’re surprised — the girl has chemistry with a tree).
