It looks like the terror attacks will not end with 2015. On Jan. 15, six gunmen stormed a hotel frequented by westerners in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. 20 people were allegedly killed in the crossfire with police and explosions of two car bombs. Here’s what we know so far.
There was yet another horrifying terror attack on Jan. 15. A hotel in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso was taken over by six armed men, who took hostages, engaged in a gunfight with authorities, and detonated two car bombs. 20 people are allegedly dead after the terrifying attack, and 15 injured. We have the details.
This is horrible news. Just two weeks into the new year, and terror is rearing it’s ugly head again. This time, the attack is in the capital city of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, a small country in northeast Africa. According to BBC eyewitnesses, two car bombs went off outside the Splendid hotel as CNN reports six men with guns invaded the building. The assailants took hostages and began a gunfight with security forces. It was reported by BBC that a Hospital Director named Robert Sangare claims 20 people are dead and 15 are injured so far. Police say several bodies were seen outside of the hotel, and fires are still burning.
The Splendid hotel is know for being a hot spot for westerners, and a subgroup of Al Qaeda called Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb claimed responsibility for the assault immediately. This is not the first time something like this has happened. An Islamist militant group launched a similar attack in nearby Mali back in Nov. that killed 22 people. Our prayers are with Burkina Faso during this terrifying time.
