‘Shadowhunters’ is here! The highly-anticipated show, based on ‘The Mortal Instruments,’ premiered Jan. 12, and it’s a huge dose of fun. Clary’s world changes forever, and she comes face-to-face with Jace!
It’s the show we’ve been waiting for — Shadowhunters! Clary, Jace, Simon, Alec and the rest of the gang take us into their world, and it’s so crazy. On the Jan. 12 premiere, Clary realizes nothing is what it seems, Jace saves Clary and the big bad shows his face.
Matthew Daddario’s Alec is one of the first people we see when Shadowhunters begins. I’m already loving this show. I mean, have you seen him? Alec and the rest of the Shadowhunters are hunting a demon on a night out, and Jace (Dominic Sherwood) accidentally bumps into Clary (Katherine McNamara) on his way into the club. Needless to say, when she reacts, he’s pretty shocked she can see him.
Earlier, Clary had applied to the Brooklyn Academy of Art, and she got in! Afterwards, she met up with her BFF Simon (Alberto Rosende) to celebrate. Isn’t Simon the CUTEST?! It’s also her 18th birthday, and Simon wants to take Clary out to celebrate. Everything’s all good until her biscotti disappears. That’s when you know something’s up.
Clary heads home, and her mom (Maxim Roy) gives her a family heirloom for her birthday. The gift looks very familiar to Clary — she doodled something similar before. Her mom raises a big red flag by saying, “Everything is going to change for you now.” Jocelyn wants to talk, but Clary is ready to go out with Simon. What Jocelyn wants to tell Clary is super important, considering she had Magnus keep the truth from Clary years ago. Clary believes her life is so boring, but she has no idea what’s coming. Clary, Simon and Maureen have a little performance session before heading to the club. The unrequited love is in full swing, Maureen looks longingly at Simon during their performance, while Simon only has eyes for Clary.
Note to self: Demons prefer blondes. Apparently, dangerous demons are draining the blood of their victims, and this demon drama connects itself to the unsolved cases Jocelyn’s boyfriend, Luke (Isaiah Mustafa), is looking into.
Demons, Demons, Demons
Okay, so we’re back at the club, and Clary and Jace are face-to-face. “How can I not know who you are,” Jace says to Clary. He’s taken aback by her. He walks away, and Simon and Maureen are looking at Clary like she’s crazy. It looked like she was talking to an imaginary friend.
In the club, the enigmatic Magnus kicks out some troublemaking Circle Members. Meanwhile, Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia) performs one sexy dance and attracts a bunch of demons. Clary tags along with one, just as Jace goes after the head honcho demon. Clary tries to intervene when she thinks Jace is about to kill an actual human, and chaos ensues. In the midst of the mayhem, Clary even kills a demon! She runs out scared and right into Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.). He immediately recognizes her, and the Circle Members follow her home.
As you would expect, Clary’s freaking out about what she just saw. Her mom wants to explain everything, but there’s no time. Jocelyn had hid something from someone powerful very long ago, and now people are coming for her. She gives Clary a necklace and tells her to trust no one but Luke. Before she could realize what was happening, Clary was at the police station.
The Circle Members throw Dot (Vanessa Matsui) from a window. Jocelyn is desperate for them not to find Clary. She drinks a potion and becomes comatose. They bring her body to Valentine, who is straight up cray. Clary overhears Luke talking, and he says he doesn’t care about Clary or Jocelyn. He only wants to find the Mortal Cup. After hearing this, Clary is devastated.
‘I Got You’
Clary comes back to her house and breaks down. She finds Dot, only it’s not Dot — it’s a demon! Clary tries to fight her off, but she just isn’t strong enough. Jace saves the day. Hallelujah. After an extremely tiring day, Clary collapses. Jace picks her up. “I got you,” he says. SWOON.
She wakes up and Isabelle’s there. “I’ve never seen Jace so concerned or distracted by a mundane,” Isabelle tells Clary. Jace and Isabelle are very interested in Clary and want to find out more about her, but Alec tries putting a kink in their master plan. He’s suspicious of Clary. Isabelle drops a brutally honest truth bomb on Alec: “Maybe you’re pissed at the way Jace was looking at her.”
Jace explains to Clary what the Shadowhunters are all about, and she admits she doesn’t want to be a part of their “supernatural fight club.” There is so much sexual tension between Clary and Jace. He shows off his abs to introduce her to his runes. Bless. Jace is so cocky, but it’s amazing. When they go and meet Simon, a man tries to attack Clary. Thankfully, Jace intervenes, and all of this is happening while Simon is totally oblivious. Someone help a guy out!
Jace stresses that he needs to keep Clary safe. Simon tries to tell her to cool it, but it’s Jace. How can you turn down that face? (For the record, I heart Simon forever.) Clary better take Jace up on his offer because Valentine finds out Jocelyn has a daughter, and he’s going to do whatever he can to find her.
Other ‘Shadowhunters’ Notes
*Simon is so unbelievably charming. Alberto Rosende has the role down pat. I’m already obsessing over him. If I were Clary, I would be all over that.
*Alec is super snarky and very pretty to look at. I’m looking forward to see what’s next for him. #Malec.
*Isabelle is everything. She takes sassy to a whole new level.
*I really enjoyed the Shadowhunters premiere. It already has me hooked. There’s so much story to tell, and I can’t wait to see this cast take it all on. I mean, they’re seriously HOT!
