The Powerball lottery has reached an insane $1.5 billion, making this the largest jackpot in the history of the game. It’s an unprecedented amount of money that will change one winer’s life forever.
Lottery officials have declared the $1.5 billion Powerball jackpot the largest prize that has ever existed. The latter drawing, occurring Wednesday, January 13, may even grow from there. The lucky winner will see $930 million in cash value before taxes. Incredible!
Have you bought your ticket yet? The January 12 drawing for the Powerball lottery is set for $1.5 billion, after sitting at $1.4 billion on just January 11. The jackpot has steadily been increasing since the November 7 drawing, which was at $500 million. Nobody won, and the ball have rolled 19 times since. On Saturday, January 10, the United States waited in anticipation for the massive $900 million lotto drawing; when nobody won, the jackpot continued to grow! And here we are, witnessing the largest jackpot in the history of the game.
Officials for the Multi-State Lottery Association, which runs Powerball, changed the odds of winning the game earlier in the Fall from one in 175 million to one in 292.2 million (making it harder to win), so they knew that bigger prize purses would happen. They didn’t expect something of this high an amount, though!
The Powerball lottery can be played in 44 states, as well as the District of Columbia, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Hopefully, you’re one of the lucky who can participate! The massive size of the Powerball purse is even more astounding when you see it compared to the previous big winner. Three people (in Kansas, Illinois and Maryland), won $656.0 million on March 30, 2012. That’s an unimaginable amount of money, but it’s pretty much chump change compared to $1.5 billion!
