Most girls probably don’t want to be considered a “crazy ex-girlfriend,” but Rachel Bloom probably doesn’t mind! The 28-year-old actress plays the main character in the CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and she just took home the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series – Comedy Or Musical for the role. 1. She almost didn’t have her Golden Globe-winning role.
During her acceptance speech, Rachel revealed that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was initially turned away by several channels before the CW picked it up. Considering Rachel probably thought her show might not even happen, no wonder she was so tearful when they called her name!
2. Before making her way to television, she was a YouTube star.
Rachel first released a parody music video called “F*** Me, Ray Bradbury” that went viral and boosted her to Internet stardom under the name “Racheldoesstuff.” She now posts clips from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend on it!
3. She’s in the same comedic posse as Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.
Although it’s unclear if Rachel has ever met Amy or Tina, she studied improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City. Not only does that make her a fellow alum to Amy and Tina, but also other hilarious comedians like Fred Armisen, Ellie Kemper, and Zach Galifianakis.
4. This is the first award she has won, but not the first for which she was nominated.
