He’s baaaaack! Ricky Gervais took no prisoners during the Golden Globes on Jan. 10. Ricky dissed everyone from Caitlyn Jenner to Donald Trump. Here are the top 5 funny and scandalous things Ricky said during his triumphant and controversial return!
When Ricky Gervais, 54, returned as the host for the Golden Globes, the creator of The Office decided that he’d play nice — just kidding! Ricky tore into everyone, blasting Sean Penn, 55, for hiding El Chapo, trashing Ben Affleck‘s, 43, infidelity and so much more. Here are five of Ricky’s best jokes of the night!
Everyone was on the edge of their seat at the Beverly Hilton Hotel during the Jan 10 ceremony, as they wondered just what he would this time. Even before the ceremony began, Ricky gave a preview on Twitter, saying he, “better get dressed and offend some humourless c*nts I suppose.” Yikes! From there, nothing was off limits.
1. Ricky trashed Sean Penn on behalf of El Chapo.
Ricky wasted no time in taking shots, as he unloaded some major disses during his opening monologue. After calling everyone “disgusting, pill-popping, sexual deviants,” he said he was going to do his monologue and then “go into hiding. Not even Sean Penn will find me,” before calling the I Am Sam star a “snitch” for ratting out the Mexican drug lord.
2. Ricky ran down Caitlyn Jenner’s driving history.
“I’m going to be nice tonight,” Ricky promised during his opening speech, before mocking the star of I Am Cait. “I’ve changed. Not as much as Bruce Jenner, obviously — now Caitlyn Jenner, of course. What a year she’s had! She became a role model….breaking down barriers and destroying stereotypes. She didn’t do a lot for women drivers but, you can’t have everything.”
3. He became Jennifer Garner’s favorite comedian with a single joke!
When introducing Matt Damon, not only did Ricky poke fun at The Martian being classified as a “comedy” in this year’s ceremony, he said that Matt was “the only one person Ben Affleck hasn’t been unfaithful to.”
4. Ricky decided to get political by bashing Donald Trump.
Being from England, Ricky may not be able to vote in the 2016 Presidential Election. But that didn’t stop him from taking a shot at the Republican frontrunner. When introducing Eva Longoria and America Ferrera, he said they “aren’t just two beautiful, talented actresses — they’re also two people your future President, Donald Trump, can’t wait to deport.”
5. Ricky tried to patch things up with the original Mad Max — by trashing Bill Cosby.
Ricky brought up how last time he hosted the Golden Globes, he had to introduce Mel Gibson after constantly making fun of Mel’s drunken, anti-Semitic past. Surprise! Ricky had to once again introduce Mel, so he tried to find something nice to say about him: “I’d rather have a drink with him in his hotel room tonight than Bill Cosby.” Mel fired back, saying that, “I like seeing Ricky every three years because it reminds me to get a colonoscopy.”
