Jamie Foxx, 48, totally went there at the Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 10! While presenting the award for Best Original Score, the singer took a huge dig at Steve Harvey, referencing how he announced the wrong winner at the Miss Universe pageant on Dec. 20. LOL!
After going through the nominees, Jamie opened the envelope and announced, “And the winner is….Straight Outta Compton!” Everyone was initially super confused — the film wasn’t even nominated! But just momentarily after the awkward pause, Jamie showed the winner’s card to the crowd and confirmed, “Ah, I’m so sorry! It says it right there…it says it right there…it’s The Hateful Eight.” HA! So yes, the actual winer was Ennio Morricone, and since he couldn’t be there, director Quentin Tarantino took the stage to accept (and it was quite hilarious).
Of course, the 48-year-old was referencing that totally awful moment at Miss Universe, when Steve announced that Miss Colombia, Ariadna Guttierez, had won the competition…only to correct himself seconds later to reveal Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, Miss Philippines, was the real champion. Considering Ariadna was already wearing the crown and sash, the whole thing was TOTALLY awkward.
“It was very humiliating for me, but also for the whole country and all the people, not only from Colombia, but the other Latinos that were there in the auditorium,” Ariadna admitted. “[I thought] it was going to be a joke, because in the rehearsals, he used to play around with the questions. And I thought he was going to continue with that tone to make people laugh.”
Nope, definitely not a joke…but not a publicity stunt either, according to Steve. “Why the hell would I do that?” he asked. “I’m already famous. Do you really think I wanted to be famous like this? Now I got a guy in my ear going, ‘We gotta do something, we gotta do something.’ That’s all I’m hearing. All this confusion backstage. So I took it upon myself and I walked out there to do something. Did I make a mistake? Yes I did. Wholeheartedly. At this point in the game, I’m not in the finger pointing business and rolling other people under the bus.” Well said.
HollywoodLifers, what did you think of Jamie mocking Steve Harvey? Was it funny…or are these jokes just old already?
