Rory Feek has gone and gotten us all teary-eyed again. The country singer got real, raw and emotional about his terminally ill wife, Joey, in a new blog post, revealing that her cancer has significantly worsened, and that she’s ready to face her sad, inevitable fate.
Joey Feek, 40, has fought incredibly hard in her tough battle with cancer, but according to her husband, Rory Feek, 49, she’s come to accept the fact that she’s dying. Our hearts are breaking for the sad couple while reading Rory’s tear-jerking recount of the hard days his wife has been facing lately.
The 49-year-old has been open with fans about Joey’s illness since she got sick, but this post might be the most emotional of them all. He begins by remembering the day the country duo recorded a video for the song “When I’m Gone” in 2012, and had to play the roles of a dying wife and the husband she’d be leaving behind — the exact same situation they’re going through in real life today.
“And now, here I sit beside my dying wife,” he continues. “I don’t say those words lightly. As a matter of fact, I haven’t said them at all. But my beautiful bride has said them to me in these last couple of days. Her pain and discomfort has continued to increase daily and so has the morphine to help her be comfortable. The dosage she’s needed to help keep the pain away has quadrupled in the last four days. I’d like to tell you that she’s doing great and is going to beat this thing. But I can’t.” You can stream Rory and Joey’s music ad-free RIGHT HERE.
Rory goes on to recount a recent conversation he had with Joey, in which she admitted to him that she’s been having “serious talks with Jesus.” “She said she told him that if He’s ready to take her…she’s ready to come home,” he writes.
Joey was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2014, and although she underwent aggressive treatment, it returned in 2015. The couple announced in October of last year that the illness was terminal, and the 40-year-old entered a hospice program in November. Joey has stayed incredibly strong, though, fighting for her husband and daughter, Indiana, 22 months. She was photographed smiling during Christmas, but things have clearly worsened since then. Our hearts are breaking for this poor family.
