You know you can’t wait for JLo’s new show — but don’t expect just another blah show this time around. Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta shine in the premiere of ‘Shades of Blue,’ and while she’s portrayed a cop before, she says this one’s way different.
In NBC’s Shades of Blue, Jennifer Lopez takes on the role of a single mother and cop from Brooklyn who is caught being dirty, so she becomes an FBI informant. Her character, Harlee Santos, is then assigned to spy on her coworkers, while also raising her daughter. From someone who’s a huge fan of cop shows, I can tell you now — this isn’t like the other cop shows you’ve seen.

“What I love about this story and this piece is mostly that it is very human. People at the core are good, but we do things that are questionable all the time. We make bad decisions, and then we have to live with them,” JLo, 46, told the Today show recently. “You know, I’ve played so many cops and [know] about it, but it’s not so much about cops as it is about the world and about human nature.”
The show really shows the life of a working woman — who’s powerful and determined, but still kind and caring — and the struggles of what it means to be a mother with a demanding job. Of course, this is something many of us can relate to. The show also stars Ray Liotta and Drea De Mattio, and it was all filmed in New York last summer, so that she would have more time. 2016 is a huge year for her! She’s a judge on the Farewell Season of American Idol and will begin her Vegas residency, Jennifer Lopez: All I Have on Jan. 20. Plus, she’s a mother of two — we don’t know how she does it!
“It means a lot to me. Being in this business since I was in my early 20s that there was always a moment where they were going to be write you off,” she added. Well, no one will write you off, ever! Shades of Blue airs on NBC on Thursday, January 7 at 10 PM ET. Will you be watching?
