Yikes! Looks like the bad blood between Zayn Malik and his former One Direction bandmates is still far from over. In a revealing new interview, the Bradford bad boy admits that he no longer has ‘four friends for life’ after months of receiving the cold shoulder from his one time friends.
Get ready to have your hearts broken all over again Directioners. Zayn Malik, 22, is Billboard magazine’s cover star this month and in his revealing interview with the mag, he gets super honest about his relationship with his former One Direction bandmates. As it turns out, Zayn and the guys have come a long way since their tight-knit heyday, as it is revealed that they’ve barely spoken in months!
When Zayn left One Direction back in March 2015, he promised fans that he would remain friends with the famous foursome for the rest of his life. Unfortunately, as his Billboard interview reveals, that just hasn’t been the case. “The truth of it is, you can think one thing about a situation and the total opposite can happen,” Zayn said about his relationship with his former 1D bandmates. “I had every intention of remaining friends with everybody, but I guess certain phone numbers have changed and I haven’t received calls from a lot of people. I’ve reached out to a few of them and not got a reply. Certain people have pride issues. But it’s stuff you overcome in time.”
This is so sad! Zayn certainly seems to be placing a lot of the blame for the rift between him and the boys on 1D. And yet, it’s not hard to see why the fellas might not be in a rush to return his calls after reading through the rest of the interview. “I’ll be honest. I thought the first single was quite cool,” Zayn said of “Drag Me Down” before adding (while making a “screwed up face” apparently), “I heard the second single and… yeah, I didn’t buy the album.”
Clearly, Zayn wasn’t a fan of the rest of Made in the A.M., and this isn’t the first time he’s pretty much admitted that he’s not a fan of One Direction’s music. “I genuinely enjoyed [the band] and did whatever I could to be myself within that, but it’s just not where I sit as a musician,” he told Billboard. “The other boys’ taste was generally indie rock. It’s good music, but I don’t f— with it. That was never cool where I was from.”
Still, despite all of the trash talking, Zayn insists he’s not interested in starting a feud with the boys and forcing fans to pick a side. “There are no sides to pick,” he insisted. “We’re not going head-to-head.”
