Bethenny Frankel stopped by the HollywoodLife.com offices to join our podcast and she told us that she does her best to stay ‘zen’ when it comes to her ongoing divorce from Jason Hoppy and despite all of the drama, it’s made her a much stronger person and a better mom.
Bethenny Frankel, 45, sits down in our NYC HollywoodLife.com offices with a big smile on her face. Despite being at the center of one of Hollywood’s most tumultuous and dragged out divorces, she tells us that life is good as she chows down on one of her Skinnygirl Protein Bars.”I’ve got it going good right now in my life,” she says. “Life is roses, it’s got petals and it’s got thorns.” The reality star is here to promote her Skinnygirl Protein Shakes and bars (which are delicious) and admits that even though she’s a multimillionaire, she’s never forgotten having only $8,000 in her bank account the day she signed on for The Real Housewives of New York in 2008. She says that just because she’s rich and famous, she still has bad days like everyone else but she’s learned how to cope. [hl_amazon_ns]
“[My divorce] is sort of like a drop of poison in the ocean,” she says in her refreshing, tell it like it is attitude. “Am I feeling it? No. But it’s there. I mean, it doesn’t weigh down on me every minute of the day, it’ll flair up sometimes, like when people have arthritis or something, but it’s there. It’s chronic. It’s not that emotionally draining, it does come up at times; you have to really just be very zen about it. You have to just say, ‘This is all supposed to be happening, it makes me stronger.’ I’m so much better; I’m a different person than I was a year and a half ago. I was a mess, I had nowhere to live and I was all over the place. It’ll fray your nerves, I was changing in the car and now I just feel centered and more focused and calm and happier. I can’t even imagine when it’s really over how happy I’ll be. I feel good. And I’m not the person who’s like, ‘I’m in a great place right now,’ that’s not me. I’ll be the first one to say, ‘This sucks.’
Bethenny and Jason share custody of their five-year-old daughter Bryn Hoppy, and she says she completely schedules her life around her daughter’s schedule. “The idea of divorce was so debilitating to me, and so anxiety-producing, and like anything else in life, the idea is worse than the reality. So once I started getting into it, like now I wasn’t seeing my daughter all the time, people would ask me when I would do signings. And one time I was in Washington speaking to a group of women, and I said, ‘You know what? Right now it’s not my time with my daughter so I’m here. I’m very organized, so ahead of time I know that, for example this interview, my daughter’s at school right now – I couldn’t be with her even if I wanted to. So how I have found my balance is, I schedule everything social and work in the time that I’m not with her. So then when I’m with her, it’s just free and good quality time.”
Even though her life is filled to the brim with managing her empire, being a mom and starring on RHONY, we had to ask if she would ever consider getting married for a third time. “No, I wouldn’t consider it,” she told us. “Legally, no. Absolutely not. Unless it’s a billionaire maybe [laughs]. No, but not even with a billionaire, because I don’t want to be in a contract in a relationship. I’ve gotten burned by being in a contract in a relationship – I’m not doing that again.”
