Steven Avery, the alleged killer at the center of Netflix’s ‘Making a Murderer,’ has now claimed that it could have been one of his two brothers who killed Teresa Halbach. Steven’s maintaining his innocence in the controversial case.
In court documents obtained by TMZ, Steven Avery, 53, alleged in 2009 that his brothers, Earl and Charles Avery, could have been guilty of the crime for which he’s serving a life sentence in prison: killing Teresa Halbach. Steven, the prisoner featuring the Netflix documentary phenomenon Making a Murderer, stated that both brothers have a history of sexually abusing women. Read on to find out the disturbing details.
Steven’s brothers have a storied history of sexual assault, and he detailed this in court docs filed in 2009, according to TMZ. Earl once pled no contest to sexually assaulting his own two daughters, date unknown. Charles was charged with sexually assaulting his wife (date also unknown) by holding her down and strangling her with a phone chord before raping her.
Steven claims that his brothers had a motive to frame him for Teresa’s murder, because they were all fighting over their family business, and he was about to see a multi-million dollar settlement for a wrongful conviction of sexual assault. Furthermore, Charles allegedly harassed multiple women the same month Teresa went missing!
Charles had an alleged history of harassment of women who visited the brothers’ junkyard. One woman actually went to the police because she was apparently scared of Charles for his alleged harassment; he reportedly sent gifts to her home, showed up at her house, and called her over and over again. That’s terrifying.
Steven was convicted in 2005 for the murder of Teresa, a photographer who disappeared the same day that she met with him for a photoshoot for Auto Trader Magazine. Since then, he has consistently claimed that he was framed for the murder; he’s spent his time in prison studying law, and sued the police on his own in 2012. Not for framing him, but for damaging his car while they were examining it during the murder case. It’s going to be interesting to see where this case goes next, and if fans fervent attempts to get Steven an appeal to overturn his conviction will pan out!
