We know that Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey have one special friendship — we’ve all seen ‘Dumb & Dumber.’ However, Jeff reveals his deep connection with Jim on this week’s ‘Inside the Actor’s Studio’ bonus scene. Watch the exclusive clip below.
Jim Carrey is hilarious, that’s a well known fact. Jeff Daniels is too. We fell in love with them as a comedic pair on Dumb and Dumber, but now Jeff’s talking all about Jim’s comedy style, how he encouraged him on both the original and the movie’s sequel, and just how similar he is to Jim’s RV costar, the late Robin Williams.
“He’s a comedic genius,” Jeff says in the exclusive bonus clip for this week’s Inside the Actor’s Studio. “In not just the first [Dumb and Dumber], but in the second one as well, I told him this: ‘Jim, I want you to be great. This is not a competition.’ Not that it was with me — it never was, and Jim knew that.”
Jeff went on to explain that with Jim — or comedians like him, namely Robin, comedy is on a whole different level.
“You get with a Jim or a Robin Williams, guys like that, and they just spin and it’s a comic tornado,” he said. “Only Robin would have spun about blue cards and made five minutes out of it. Only Jim can do what Jim would do — and that’s where genius lies.”
You can see in the clip that Jeff has deep respect for Jim as a friend and a comedian. “In a world where we’ve seen everything and theres nothing new, when somebody like that does something that is so definitive and unique… that’s who you’re sitting next to.”
