Steve Harvey released a statement on his morning talk show rejecting claims that his major flub at the Miss Universe pageant was a publicity stunt. Steve was already a celebrity before the mistake, so why would he need more attention?
After crowning the wrong contestant at Miss Universe 2015 on December 20, Steve Harvey, 58, has faced a lot of heat. He’s been made into a meme, ridiculed by the public, and angered entire nations. Steve took to his radio show, The Steve Harvey Morning Show, on January 4, to set the record straight about what happened that night. His bottom line: stop saying that he messed up as a publicity stunt!
Steve is angry, and he has no qualms about letting everyone know. He’s fessed up about his massive mistake — mistakenly crowning Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutiérrez-Arévalo, 22, when the winner was actually Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach, 26, — but he needs everyone to know that he didn’t do it with ill intentions. It was a true flub! You can listen to his radio statement HERE.
Was the horrible moment — having to come back onstage and take Miss Colombia’s crown away to give it to Miss Philippines — a publicity stunt? Stop saying that! “Why the hell would i do that? i’m already famous,” Steve said. Do you really think i wanted to be famous like this. Now i got a guy in my ear going, ‘we gotta do something we gotta do something.'”
“That’s all i’m hearing, all this confusion backstage,” Steve continued. “So I took it upon myself and I walked out there to do something. Did i make a mistake? Yes I did. Wholeheartedly. At this point in the game I’m not in the finger pointing business and rolling other people under the bus.”
Steve has a valid point. He’s a famous comedian and actor who’s been around for years, who even had his own sitcom, The Steve Harvey Show. Not to mention, he’s the host of Family Feud! There’s no reason why he would need extra publicity, right? He’s apologized profusely for the mistake, reaching out to both Pia and Ariadna. Hopefully, his statement will clear things up!
