Jennifer tells ‘Glamour’ in a new interview that she was so upset after the shootings at Planned Parenthood in Colorado in November of 2015 because she grew up relying on them for contraceptives since her mother was very religious.
Jennifer Lawrence is speaking out and defending Planned Parenthood. The actress tells Glamour that since her mom was “really religious” when she was growing up that she would go to Planned Parenthood to to get condoms and birth control. The 25-year-old says that these were things she needed and even though her family didn’t agree she was so thankful that a place like Planned Parenthood existed.
“It isn’t an attack on abortions; it’s an attack on women,” she says of the shootings that took place in Colorado. “Because Planned Parenthood is so much more [than abortion]. I wouldn’t have been able to get condoms and birth control and all these things I needed as a normal teenager who was growing up in a Jesus house,” she says, adding, “And now I am a successful woman who has not had a pregnancy.” We are so glad that Jennifer is using her star power to speak out on such important issues. Jennifer also said in the interview that when she learned about the horrible shootings at Planned Parenthood in Colorado, her best Amy Schumer came over and was crying. “Amy’s the most empathetic person I’ve ever met in my life. When she came over this morning, she was crying. She had just…seen the news about the shooting at Planned Parenthood.
Jennifer adds: “My mom was really religious with me when I was young. She’s not so much anymore.” We told you in September that Planned Parenthood lost its federal funding for one year after a 241-187 vote in the House of Representatives. This was after Planned Parenthood was accused of illegally selling body parts from fetus’.
