Our hearts are completely broken for Helen Wisner. The 26-year-old’s husband, Craig Strickland, was found dead on Jan. 4, a full week after he was reported missing, and Helen broke her silence on social media with an emotional post just moments after news of the tragedy went public.
Helen Wisner, 26, is keeping a positive mindset after losing her husband Craig Strickland. The former Miss Arkansas wasted no time thanking fans for their support and prayers after police revealed that the country singer’s body had been found on Jan. 4. Read her sad, but optimistic, tweet here.

“#CraigStrickland was found today,” she wrote. “He is safe with his Father in Heaven. Thank you Lord for leading us to him today. I will praise you, Amen.” She took to Instagram to share a lengthier message, revealing that, despite the horrible news, she is finally at peace. “Craig was found today,” she captioned a loving photo of the pair. “We can finally rest knowing that he is at Home in Heaven with his Father.”
After explaining what ultimately caused the 29-year-old’s tragic death, she added, “Thank you to every single person who prayed for him and our family during this time. There was not a more peaceful way for him to go into the arms of our Lord, and I know your prayer had a role in making that happen. I know he saw Jesus at that moment when he laid down and walked arm in arm with Him into a better Everlasting Life. I love you with all my heart Craig Michael.” So heartbreaking.
The Backroad Anthem singer and his pal, Chase Morland, 22, embarked on a duck hunting trip in the middle of a storm on Dec. 27, and were reported missing one day later after their boat capsized. Chase’s dead body was recovered almost immediately, and Craig’s dog, Sam, was found alive near the scene, but it took a full week for authorities to locate Craig’s remains.
“The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Marine Enforcement Division made recovery of the body of Craig M. Strickland this morning January 4, 2016,” the Oklahoma Highway Patrol told HollywoodLife.com. “Strickland and his friend, Chase R. Morland, were both reported missing on Sunday, December 27, 2015, while on a duck hunt at Kaw Lake in Kay County, Oklahoma. Strickland’s body was located within the original search area known as Bear Creek Cove.”
Throughout the desperate search and rescue mission, Helen continued to remain hopeful that she would find her husband. Just one day before he was found, she wrote on Instagram, “We located a cove that looked promising — officers and search & rescue K9 are currently searching the area. Hopefully positive news will follow this afternoon.” Unfortunately, things did not turn out as she hoped, and our hearts remain with Helen and the rest of Craig’s family during this difficult time.
Craig was found today. We can finally rest knowing that he is at Home in Heaven with his Father. The night of the accident he had fought his way out of the water and up a hill before the stages of hypothermia set in. He experienced no pain in his final moments and simply felt like he was falling asleep. They found him lying in the shape of a cross looking up to his Father. Thank you to every single person who prayed for him and our family during this time. There was not a more peaceful way for him to go into the arms of our Lord, and I know your prayers had a role in making that happen. I know he saw Jesus at that moment when he laid down and walked arm in arm with Him into a better Everlasting Life. I love you with all my heart Craig Michael. #craigstrickland
