New Yorkers hoping to get a taste of Chick-Fil-A over New Year’s Eve weekend were out of luck! The Big Apple’s only location of the fast food restaurant was closed down on Dec. 30 for violating some major health codes — yikes.
Chick-Fil-A in New York City has some cleaning up to do! The restaurant received 59 violation points during its latest health inspection, and had to close its doors for four full days during a busy holiday weekend to fix the problems. And, naturally, Manhattanites are pissed!
“To ensure we continue to provide our guests with the best possible service and experience, we are closing for a few days beginning Wednesday Dec. 30 for restaurant maintenance and facility updates,” a sign on the restaurant’s window read. “We look forward to serving our guests breakfast on Jan. 4th at 6:30 a.m.” But as of Jan. 4, the fast food chain still hadn’t reopened its doors.
“There were six violations on the last health inspection, so we decided to voluntarily close the restaurant so that the team could focus solely on those issues — primarily the presences of fruit flies,” a spokesperson said. “There is a little more work to be done from a facilities, maintenance and retraining standpoint, so we have decided to remain closed [Monday] until we feel everything exceeds standards.”
Chick-Fil-A’s inspection was done on Dec. 24, and besides the presence of fruit flies, there were four other “critical” violations found: Cold food item held above 41 degrees except during necessary preparation, Food not cooled by approved method, Wiping cloths soiled or not stored in sanitizing solution and Food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service. The restaurant was also found to not be vermin proof. Yuck.
