In a shocking development, Camille Cosby is being forced to testify in the civil case against her husband, Bill Cosby. A judge has decided that Camille failed to prove that she should be protected by Massachusetts’ marital disqualification law, and now she will be forced to provide deposition. Wow!
Camille Cosby, 71, is no longer being protected by marital disqualification, and will now have to testify against her husband, Bill Cosby, 78! Bill is being sued for defamation by seven women whom he called liars after they accused him of sexual assault. Camille’s scheduled to be deposed for the women on Wednesday, January 6. Joseph Cammarata, a lawyer for the women, argued in December that he had the right to secure Camille’s deposition because she could have “information that’s relevant to the litigation in this matter.” Camille and Bill’s lawyer rejected that claim, filing a motion on December 18 to stop the subpoena because they called it “nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to pressure defendant in the face of subjecting his wife to the shame and embarrassment of responding to questions about his alleged infidelities and sexual misconduct.” Camille has repeatedly stated that she’s going to stand by her man, no matter what. Bill and Camille’s move didn’t work. U.S. Judge Magistrate David Hennessey in Springfield, Massachusetts wrote in a 12-page ruling that the couple didn’t prove that Camille was protected: her arguments “do not outweigh the potential significance of Mrs. Cosby’s testimony, nor has Mrs. Cosby provided any authority that they do.” Camille is now testifying, despite the fact that she tried again to get out of it by filing a protective order to limit the scope of the deposition, since she couldn’t get out of it altogether — still rejected.
Bill’s defamation case comes the same week that he was arrested In Pennsylvania for the 2004 drugging and assault former Temple University employee Andrea Constand, 32, in Philadelphia. Though he has been accused of drugging and sexual assault by 52 women, this is the only case that fell under the statute of limitations, thus resulting in his arrest. However, the other accusations shattered his wholesome image, leading to his insults to the particular women, and the resulting defamation lawsuit.
