This is so sad. A crew member aboard the Carnival Ecstasy died a gruesome, bloody death while fixing an elevator on the cruise ship, and authorities are still investigating what went wrong to lead to this tragedy. Read the full statement from police here.
The cause of the tragic elevator accident that killed an electrician on a Carnival Ecstasy cruise ship Dec. 27 is still unknown. HollywoodLife.com has obtained a statement from the Miami-Dade police department regarding this horrifying accident, and you can read it right here.
“At approximately 6.15pm U.S. eastern time on Sunday, Dec. 27, a crew member on board the Carnival Ecstasy died while working on an elevator,” authorities said in a statement. “The company extends its heartfelt sympathy to the family and loved ones of our team member. Our CareTeam is providing support. Appropriate authorities have been notified and a full investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. The ship was on the final leg of a three-day cruise from Miami.”
A shocking video taken right after the accident has started to go viral online, and it’s quite disturbing. A passenger and his wife were walking to dinner when they saw blood flowing down the elevator door, which they described as “coming down like a sheet.” Even scarier? The couple saw someone inside, which turned out to be the victim, Jose Sandoval Opazo, 66, who was crushed in the accident.
The video (above) was taken right after the accident and is absolutely horrifying to watch. In it, we can see crew members trying to redirect passengers to dinner, rather than toward the scene, and the elevator is eventually listed as “out of order,” to make sure nobody went near it. The investigation to find out exactly what happened is ongoing.
