Craig Strickland’s family is praying for the safe return of the country singer, who went missing after his boat capsized on a duck hunting trip. Read his father, Randy’s, hopeful message after a first day and night of searching proved unsuccessful.
Randy Strickland is not giving up hope that his son, Craig Strickland, will be found alive. After a full day and night of searching, police still can’t locate the country singer’s body, and Randy took to Facebook to share an update and optimistic message on Dec. 28. Read it here.
“The search has been called off for the night, bringing boat with sonar in morning,” he wrote. “A friend gave me these words! We are trying to think of a scenario where he is still alive. Hoping against the odds. We can’t even stand to think about it. We are devastated. Only God and time can put us back together. Love all!”
Craig, who is the lead singer of six-piece country band, Backroad Anthem, was declared missing on Dec. 28, hours after he and friend, Chase Morland, went out into a major Oklahoma storm to go duck hunting. During the trip, the guys’ boat capsized, and Chase was found dead by police. While Craig’s body has still not been discovered, his dog was found alive and returned to the family.
Like randy, Craig’s wife, Helen Wisner, a former Miss Arkansas, begged fans for prayers. “Craig is still missing,” she wrote. “The searched has been called for the night. It will resume again in the morning with a sonar boat. Still need prayers. Craig’s dog Sam has been found. His boat has been confirmed as being capsized. They are still searching for Craig. Please keep praying.”
What makes this whole situation even more sad, is that Chase seemingly foreshadowed his tragic fate just hours before the boat set out. “In case we don’t come back, @BackroadCRAIG and I are going right through Winter Storm Goliath to kill ducks in Oklahoma,” he tweeted, jokingly. “#IntoTheStorm.” Craig retweeted the message, but of course, it is no longer a laughing matter. Our thoughts remain with Craig’s family, bandmates and loved ones during this difficult time.
