This is so scary! Alfredo Pacheco, one of El Salvador’s most infamous players, was shot to death in his hometown of Santa Ana! The 33-year-old’s murder is one of 6,500 murders to have taken place in the past year in El Salvador.
Alfredo Pacheco was murdered on Dec. 27 while at a gas station in Santa Ana, El Salvador. The Salvadoran native was once one of El Salvador’s most recognized soccer players but he was banned from the Salvadorean Football Federation in 2013 for fixing games. The soccer player was gunned down early in the morning while he was talking to some people but it’s unclear why he was targeted and who did it.
Alfredo’s murder reportedly took place at 3:30am and the two others he was with were also wounded. They were all raced to a nearby hospital. Not only did he play for his home country but he also played 14 times for the New York Red Bulls in 2009. Alfredo also played for FAS, Isidro Metapán and C.D. Aguila. Sadly, murders like these have become second nature in El Salvador. According to statistics, there have been a record 6,500 murders in the past year there and it’s been the deadliest year to date in the country. Alfredo was one of 22 players who were banned for match-fixing, which is such a shame considering he was the most capped player for El Salvador in soccer history.
