Pretty soon, you’re going to have to clarify at McDonald’s when you’re ordering a mac that it’s the Big one! McDonald’s is rolling out mac & cheese for a test run in some of it’s restaurants, to see if they can master the cheesy goodness. Yum!
McDonald’s mac & cheese is a little bit of a strange concept, but the historic fast food franchise is testing the new menu item in several restaurants in the United States, starting in late December 2015. It’s a limited time run, only lasting through February 2016. We’re fascinated by this new menu item, and wanted to learn more about it. Click through for five facts about McDonald’s new mac & cheese!
1. It’s only available in Ohio
Unfortunately, the mac & cheese limited run is only happening at 18 McDonald’s locations in the Cleveland area of Ohio. Bummer! Cleveland has been serving as a Mickey D’s test market since summer 2015, apparently, and has boasted mac & cheese on their menu in just a few of their restaurants since November. Way to keep a secret, guys!
It’s only being served in small portions
Don’t think you can stuff yourself on the comfort food like you’re digging into a large fry! For the kiddos, mac & cheese will be offered as a Happy Meal entree for $3; it includes a kid-sized portion, along with fries, fruit and a carton of milk. Delish! As for adults, the mac & cheese will be offered as a side dish, for just $1.75!
It’s (relatively) guilt-free!
The side dish is just 190 calories, so if you plan your McDonald’s visit out right, you could be walking away from a fast food meal that doesn’t completely destroy your diet. That’s about the same calorie count as grabbing a four-piece chicken mcnugget; good news for vegetarians!
Japan’s doing its own version
Leave it to Japan’s McDonald’s to get creative with the new fare. The Japanese chain of the restaurants is currently offering mac & cheese croquette sandwiches topped with demo-glacé sauce. As in, a fried mac & cheese patty sandwiched between bread. Carb-y!
This isn’t the only cheesy thing going down at McDonald’s
Get ready for McDonald’s take on mozzarella sticks, along with something called “cheese bombs.” Have you guessed what that means: yep, deep-friend cheese balls! Are you getting hungry, or nauseous right about now?
